Hi guys! So today I’m doing a colourpop hau and review. I heard of colourpop a long time ago,but I had never tried any of their products. I’ve heard really good things about their pressed shadows and lipsticks. I checked the website and they had a sale of 4$ per each shadow instead of $5, and they always have free shipping after a certain amount spent; $30 for US and $50 international shipping. I always treat myself for my birthday, and it was coming up pretty soon at the time so I figured, why not?
I ordered 8 eyeshadows, you get a free magnetic palette with every 4 shadows you get. I also got 2 ultra matte lipsticks and 1 blush. I wanted to try one of their eyeshadow palettes, as it has been popular on youtube, but they were sold out.
It took me so long to decide which ones to get. I wanted to make sure I didn’t have a shadow in a similar shade so I looked up reviews and swatches of every shade that caught my eye. I went for browns and burgundy tones, the basics, as I wanted to be able to use them all and combine them for different looks. It does kind of suck that you don’t really know what the colours really look like, as they can look completely different in pictures depending on the lighting, but colourpop is only sold online.
I tried my best to do swatches, I’m not that great at it. I do think that a couple of them look very similar when you swatch them, which is kind of disappointing because I tried to avoid that by comparing pictures and swatches.
Eyeshadow shades in order of swatches:
Wake Up Call – This is a very light pigmented shade. I’d use this as a base for my skin tone.
Conundrum -This one is described as a matte warm brown.
Lil’boat – This one says is a matte rich brown. This shade and conundrum look different on the website and in person but when you swatch them they look very similar, which is disappointing.
Top Notch – Described as a matte terracotta brown.
Popular Demand -This says is a matte red brown. This and the shade Top Notch are also very similar. They do also look similar on the tins as well, but I didn’t notice it on pictures.
Get Out -Described as a matte cool cranberry. I really like this colour.
Cute Alert – A matte deep burgundy. This looks brownish to me.
Pinky Promise – A metalic wine shade. I also really like this one. It’s a very pretty colour, very pigmented and unique in my collection.
I do like the consistency of the shadows and they are very pigmented. I just wish there was a way to know exactly was colour you are getting, as I think I got similar shades, which seems like a waste to me, I could’ve gotten other shades if I knew they were similar. But that is also my fault for not stepping out of my comfort zone and getting more vibrant or different colours.
Next, the blush. I got the shade Aphrodisiac, which is darker than any other blushes I have. At first I was worried that I wouldn’t like it on my skin, as it is darker than I was expecting. The consistency is difficult to describe, its soft, creamy and it kind of reminds me of play-doh. I find that it works best applied with my fingers. I think that this shade would work better as a contour shade for lighter skin tones, but of course it depends on everyone’s preference.
Last, the ultra matte lipsticks. I was going for dark nudes or dark pinks, I think those colours looks better on my skin tone. I did the same things as with the eyeshadows, I looked for pictures and swatches to get an idea of the colours. I ended up choosing beeper and tulle.
I think these are both beautiful colours. The consistency is kinda drying, so if you already have dry lips, these will definitely make it worse and I’d go for their satin matte lipsticks instead if you like the matte finish. But again, the same thing happened, the shades are not what I expected. Beeper is much darker than I thought, as for tulle, I think it was pretty close to what I was expecting. I honestly thought it’d be all over beeper, I don’t dislike the colour but I don’t love the look of it. I can see myself wearing it but won’t be my go-to colour. To my surprise, I can totally see myself reaching more for tulle, specially in the fall and winter.
So, as for my experience ordering from colourpop, shipping time and customs charges. The website is pretty easy to use, you receive a $5 coupon for your first time ordering, which I did not use because I closed the pop up window and wasn’t able to find it again. I ordered $52 dollars worth of products to qualify for free shipping. It said it would charge me $52 on my card, but ended up charging me $68 and I found that out by checking my bank account, the website never even let me know. I understand because of the convertion to Canadian money, but I just wish it did the convertion on the spot like other websites do before you proceed to checkout. I had totally forgotten about it and I was a bit shocked when I saw how much it really cost me. Shipping was pretty fast, it took about 4-5 days to arrive so that was great. But the other thing is, the website does let you know that you will be paying customs and the amount depends on the mailing company. I ended up having to pay $21CAD to receive my order, so I paid $89 CAD in total which is waaay more than I had planned to spend.
I do like the products and I think it’s worth it if you live in the US, but I personally don’t think I will be ordering again, which is a shame because I wanted to try more of their lipsticks and their eyeshadows, they have such beautiful shades. I think that after paying that much money, I could spend it at sephora and get an eyeshadow palette and maybe 1 or 2 lipsticks, and at least I’d know exactly what the shades look like before buying them..oh well! You live and you learn.
I hope you found this helpful. Have you guys tried colourpop products? What are your favourites? Let me know in the comments. Thank you for reading!
